Today we are honoured to support the Digital Poverty Alliance’s initiative End Digital Poverty Day. Digital poverty, an ever-pressing issue affecting a significant portion of UK citizens has long been of interest at Get Online @ Home. Why Does Digital Poverty Day Matter?
Digital poverty can be defined as the inability of an individual to fully engage with the online world when, where, and as necessary. It extends beyond accessing devices or the internet; digital skills and knowledge deficiencies prevent individuals from accessing essential services like education, employment opportunities, healthcare delivery systems and social inclusion.
End Digital Poverty Day sheds light on an urgent problem that impacts all aspects of society. By joining together on this day, we hope to raise awareness of digital poverty while simultaneously encouraging practical actions and garnering support for making a real impactful difference.
The Steps We Are Taking to Combat Digital Poverty
Computer Recyclers UK have made a pledge to support affordable connectivity and devices as part of our commitment to the Digital Poverty Alliance’s National Delivery Plan. As such, for each discounted refurbished computer purchased with home broadband, we donate £40 directly to the Digital Poverty Alliance.
